How To Have The Most Productive Day Ever

Thursday, 7 May 2015

How great does it feel to have a productive day? To get to the end of the day and be all like ‘yeah, I did it, I did all the errands!’. It feels better than marathoning a tv show and eating junk food and getting to the end of weekend and questioning everything. We all have our good days and the days we feel ready to conquer the world (or at least just the housework) and they always feel so damn good.

These are a few things I find help when trying to achieve just about anything and everything…

1) Wake up early

I am not a morning person and I do not understand what people normally do pre 11am, and it’s painful getting up early, I know! I’m not talking about 5am here, even just 9am will do. Get up and shower and get dressed, the earlier you get up the more you fit into your day and the less you have to do on a later date!

2) Eat breakfast

Without sounding cliche, breakfast really is the most important meal. You don’t need to spend hours preparing and tidying up afterwards, even just a bowl of cereal will give you enough energy to start your day. But if you do want to get creative with breakfast then why not (Buzzfeed put together this super cool list of ideas for breakfast!). Eating breakfast will also help with not snacking in the morning.

3) Make a to-do list

Whenever I have a day off, being the workaholic I am, I always put together a to-do list, even if it’s just 3 points long. I think we can all agree at how satisfying it is to tick off things on a list. You can even put little things on there to begin with like ‘shower’, ‘get dressed’, even ticking those of will make you feel well on your way to conquering the world! No but seriously, make a list, you won’t forget anything, you have something to refer back to and they are just so damn good for productivity.

4) Drink plenty of water

I’m not saying don’t drink other stuff, I’m just saying water is great and healthy and will keep you going throughout the entire day, just a lil bit every now and then is great and your skin and bones and body will love you for it.

5) Go outside

Go for a walk or to the gym or to the park or to town or run errands, or to all of the places I just listed. Get outside and enjoy this sunshine, spring, summer thing that’s currently taking place before it disappears again. It feels so much better to get out and about rather than being home all day.

6) Treat yourself

When it comes to the end of the day and you realise you’ve done just about everything you needed to and you’re well on your way to world domination, treat yourself. To good food or a hot bath or time to scroll through Instagram or Tumblr, or both. It’s so important to praise yourself and celebrate your little victories, even if you did only remember to buy eggs or visit the post office. You deserve to treat yourself too!

Summer Wardrobe Haul: Topshop/Forever 21

Saturday, 2 May 2015

1) ‘Jamie’ Jeans - Topshop

Having bought 5 pairs of Topshop’s Joni jeans over the past year and wearing them to death, I thought I’d venture out. By ‘venture out’ I only mean try a different style, from the same shop, costing the same amount. When it comes to bottoms I become very picky, you’ll hardly ever see me in shorts or skirts and I stopped wearing leggings about a year ago. Jamie jeans are perfect for me, they’re elasticated, just as the Joni jeans are, they’re straight leg and obviously go with just about anything. I picked them up in a light blue colour (look at me going all out) and I’m sure I’ll be wearing them a lot over the coming months!

2) White Lace Bodycon Dress - Topshop

This was a risk, I picked it up with the ‘it probably won’t suit me but I’ll try it on anyway’ state of mind - even more so, I picked it up in a size 12, when this time last year I would of opted for a 16 or 18. Long story short, I actually looked at the label rather than the hanger and it turned out to be a 10 so basically I can fit myself into a size 10 dress and for that reason alone I brought it. It’s super cute too.

3) Brown Loafers - New Look

After living in one particular pair of shoes for just about forever I finally found some nice flat leather shoes to wear for the summer, they’re super nice and I’m hoping to keep them that way! They were £23, made of real leather and go with a the majority of my current wardrobe.

4) Crochet Vest Top - Forever 21

Crochet is totes in right now, I found this little gem in Forever 21 for about a fiver, it’s super cute and goes very nicely with my Jamie jeans, I’m excited to get my use out of it over the summer. It’s works perfectly for both dressing it up and dressing it down!

5) Floral Shorts - Forever 21

Admittedly, I got these even though they didn’t fit me in fitting rooms. They were far too pretty and cheap to just leave behind! I will eventually fit into them, I can see them playing a bit part in my holiday wardrobe.

6) Daisy Shorts - Topshop

These are super comfortable and perfect for wearing around the house or just chilling out in. This is probably due to the fact I found them in Topshop’s Nightwear section. I have legitimately just spent five minutes wondering whether it’s appropriate to wear them out and about and I’m going to have to conclude with a ‘maybe’. They’re cool.

7) Paisley Print Trousers - Topshop

Venturing out further on the ‘buying new bottoms’ thing led me to buying these cool monochrome trousers. Way back when printed leggings became I thing I despised them and could never understand why anyone would want to wear them. But I kind of understand printed trousers, they look smart and I reckon I could pull them off, either with heels or flats and a nice top.

It’s fair to say we are definitely well into spring now, easter has been and gone and left us all half a stone heavier, daffodils are just about everywhere you look and it’s only rained once this week!
The sun being out, I decided to start the week in the garden, emptying old flower pots and refilling them after a trip to the garden centre. I made an effort to make the front of the house look pretty and even started looking into sorting out the flower beds.
Friday soon came around and I celebrated my 19th birthday, I went for lunch with family, dinner with friends and all in all had a really lovely day.
I attempted making macaroons for the first time on Saturday, which were the biggest fail ever but still tasted good!

The Best Salted Caramel Brownies Ever

Thursday, 9 April 2015

You will need…

200g/7oz Unsalted Butter
100g/4oz Chocolate, 70% Cocoa
100g/4oz Chocolate, 50% Cocoa
397g can of Carnation Caramel
1 tsp of Sea salt
200g/7oz Golden Caster Sugar
4 Medium eggs
100g/4oz Plain flour
50g/2oz Cocoa powder

How to do…

1) First thing’s first (I’m the realest). Pre-heat the oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Then grease a square traybake tin with either butter or parchment paper. To make the brownies, melt the butter in a saucepan, as it’s melting break up all the chocolate and add it to the butter. Before the cubes of chocolate completely finish melting take the pan off the heat and wait for it to melt, whilst mixing it every now and then.

2) Find a small bowl and pour in 175g of the carnation caramel and a teaspoon of sea salt, mix the two together until the caramel becomes smooth.

3) In another bowl/your main mixing bowl pour in the rest of the caramel, the sugar and the eggs and mix until the mixture’s even.

4) Take your melted butter and chocolate and add it to the caramel, sugar and eggs, mix it until all the ingredients are combined. In another bowl add the flour, cocoa powder and a good pinch of table salt, mix it up and then sift it into the main mixture. Again, mix until all the ingredients are combined.

5) Pour half of the brownie mixture into the prepared tin. Use a teaspoon to spoon half of the salted caramel mixture on top, creating thick stripes across the tray. Follow this by pouring the remainder of the brownie mixture into the tin and smooth it out using a spatula, trying not to disturb the caramel sandwiched in-between. Top with the rest of the caramel, again with the stripes. Finish by dragging a skewer or the tip of a knife  through the caramel to make a feathered pattern on top.

6) Scatter a small amount of sea salt on top and then bake for 25-30 minutes. Once it’s firm and finished baking you need to leave it to cool before cutting it into pieces and of course, devouring it all by yourself.

Per brownie (based on a batch of 16)/345 Kcal

If you make too many in a batch (even if there is no such thing as too many brownies) you can freeze these!
I worked so hard to become comfortable in my own skin and you made me feel as if I was by no means good enough.

We keep going back and forth, everything is becoming repetitive and exhausting but I teach myself into pretending it’ll last longer next time.

I’m tired of being the one to apologise when I’m not the one in the wrong and only doing so to keep you.

I don’t want to fight for your attention anymore, so I won’t.

Thank God It's Monday

Monday, 16 March 2015

Thank God It’s Monday. Said nobody ever. Choosing to have Sunday’s and Monday’s as my days off as opposed to Friday’s and Saturday’s was such a good decision. I am slowly learning to make the most of my Monday’s and stop wasting my weeks away.

As of this moment I am on a very quiet train on my way to London. I have coffee, I have bacon (I am trying to eat healthily, uh) and I have Will Smith and Abba to keep me company. (Not literally obvs, although that would be well cool).

Whenever I tell people I’m going out for the day on my own I always get ‘oh okay’ or ‘are you sure you don’t want me to come with you?’. I don’t like being frowned upon for enjoying my own company. I enjoy my indolence and being able to do what I want whenever I want, I work hard to earn money so I have the ability to enjoy my days off.

There’s so much I want to see and so many places I want to visit, I don’t know many/any people that would be interested in these things/have the money to do so, I guess this makes me appreciate the job and the lifestyle I have made for myself.

Every now and then I’ll buy a train ticket, get on the train and then get off once I’ve had enough and decided where I want to go. People I mention this to think I’m mad! Excuse me for just wanting to go out and explore uh.

I’m perfectly happy to go to London and I’ve picked up the knack for tubes and inner city buses, visiting bigger cities such as London has encouraged me to appreciate more, helped to build my confidence and overall encouraged my independence.

(This post was written a while ago and I am no longer on a train to London, sob.)

My Week In Photo's No.9

Sunday, 15 March 2015

This past week has been exhausting to say the least. Not in the 'I've worked so much and I'm so tired' kind of way but in the 'I feel I'm beginning to relapse again' kind of way. The fact that we had about 2 days of sunshine and then the weather became cold again didn't help. We celebrated my Dad's birthday at the beginning of the week, and I had some time off work to enjoy. I took my first trip to the beach for the year and attempted to make my Dad's birthday cake, which was a fail but I enjoyed trying. I finally got around to ordering Game of Thrones season 4, YES. As I write this it's Mothering Sunday and I am in the gym listening to the Kings of Leon and pretending I didn't eat cake for breakfast.

I hope you all had a fab week? Did you do anything exciting? How are you spending Mother's Day?
